If there's one thing I love about Oahu it's the food. There, I said it. This island is full of the best treats, hole in the wall restaurants, and classy restaurants too. Everything across the board!!
Each time we visit Oahu, we try and fit in a few new restaurants, but there are some things that we just can't quit! There is so much to explore on this beautiful island, but be sure to save plenty of time for food when you're planning. Or call me and I'll make you an itinerary. ;)
The following suggestions are in no particular order...
First up... HUKILAU CAFE. This is the cutest family business that is only open for breakfast! Current hours are 7-11:30 AM Tuesday - Saturday. DO NOT miss the macadamia nut pancakes.
DOLE PLANTATION Dole Whip with fresh pineapple topping OR pictured in the background - Dole Whip Float (with pineapple juice). Such a fun spot to go on a tour and see how pineapples are grown.
MATSUMOTO SHAVE ICE - this is one that is a must do. No exceptions. Macadamia nut ice cream is another thing that just can't be skipped. You will thank me later! This one also has unique hours - 10-6 each day. I've gone at 7pm only to have my heart broken.
Another good shave ice option if you're not going to make it to the North Shore for Matsumotos - ANGEL'S ICE CREAM. Options for the person in your group who says ice cream is better than shave ice!
TED'S BAKERY... please just look at their menu linked here. You will start to salivate. They have pies, pastries, malasadas, and plate lunches. I am a sucker for Chicken Katsu at any Hawaiian style restaurant and this one lives up to the hype.
The Hukilau Marketplace is located right outside of the Polynesian Cultural Center. This is an awesome hub full of great food. You need a ticket to enter the Center, but these food trucks and restaurants are for anyone to enjoy!
There's TUTU'S SWEET SHOP for another fabulous Dole Whip option and many different ice creams and treats...
TITA'S GRILL with some amazing breakfast options. They have lunch & dinner menus too but I haven't tried them. I'm sure they're fabulous!
"SWEET AS" REAL FRUIT ICE CREAM... another amazing treat.
Then there's SEVEN BROTHERS RESTAURANT. This place has the best burgers and fries! Plus look at those coconut shrimp.............. I need them.
For a fancier option, ROY'S. This is my grandparents favorite higher class restaurant in Hawaii. We love it!
BANZAI BOWLS for acai. These are HUGE! We had them as a breakfast and walked across the street to the beach to enjoy our meal with a view.
And finally, LEONARD'S BAKERY. "Home of Malasadas and Pao Doce". We love their malasadas. Another good treat that passes as a breakfast. ;)
If you aren't hungry after reading this... maybe don't go to Oahu. You would hate it. ;)
Enjoy your trip!
